Hello Stampers,
Today is one of the best tips that I have to find the center of shapes, all size layers, cards, and such. I share bit and piece in many videos on how I find the center without measuring all direction of the shape or card and today video it is all about different size layer, shapes on simple ways to find the center. I am pretty sure these tips will come in handy in your paper crafting.
I have the video below or you can view it on my YouTube channel. It is so much easier for me to explain it all in the video than trying to write it down. I have a few details below but I bet you will understand much better watching the video.
A simple way to find a center
The simple way to find the center of any size layers or shapes is to have the same size layer or shapes cut out or die-cut or punch out with light copy paper.
- Using the copy paper folded in half in one direction then half again in the other direction.
- Place the folder copy paper on the shape of the layer and you will have the point that indicates the center.
See below the picture of a card front. I folded a piece of 5½ x 4¼ in half in both directions and boom I have my easier piece to mark my center.
Layer size and shape that you use often keep the template so you don’t have to redo your templet each time. If it is with a die keep the template with the die set.
Center of Dies
In the video, I share how to make marks on the dies like oval, circle, square so when you die cut with the dies it is easier to align in the center.
In the picture above you can see I made a mark in the center of the cardstock layer and then how I align with the oval with all 4 marks. I just align the marks with the little dots of the center.
I mark my circle the same with all 4 marks to find the center.
Circle punch
If you notice in the back of the circle you have the indent to indicate the center. I use a sharpie to make marks on the side so I can see the mark when I slide the paper.
Did I get you to confuse yet? well you know writing is not my strong suit so go ahead and watch the video and I bet you will appreciate and use these tips when in need to find the center of aline dies or punches.

WOW, I just may be able to get “stuff” where it actually belongs and not all kitty corner 🙂 Thank you France. Easy enough to remember.
Great Ideas Frenchie. Short cuts like these make crafting more fun & easier to get the best finished product. Scrap paper is my go to thing when I am working on a craft project with many mediums. I buy cheap paper at thrift stores to use for work sheets. 🙃
