Hello, stampers,
I think the Shining Down Technique got the most request for a video in a long time. Last month I share a card with the Peaceful Nativity and wow the requesting for a video blow my mind. So the next day I was live at lunchtime to share how to make this technique.
I have the recording of the live video at the bottom of this post.
Best tips for the Shining Down technique
So many express the challenge of sponging well my best advice is to FINISH the card then judge your card You will be amazed to see the final result. If you look at the sponging work most time it looks blah but after you add the stamping and element at the top all look great. Here a few extra tips
- Start sponging a piece of scrap paper following to your card stock.
- Do not put heavy pressure at the start apply a light layer of ink first.
- Sponge from the outside coming in. This will give you darker on the edge and lighter in the center.
- Most important DO NOT judge your sponging till you finish all the stamping.
Measurements
- Night of Navy 11 x 4¼ score at 5½ card base
- whisper White 2 of 5¼ x 4 one for the front and one for the inside.
- Optional middle layer 5-3/8 x 4-1/8
Faux Ribbon for the Antique Slider
If you notice on this card I have the antique slide but I didn’t have Night Of Navy or Old Olive ribbon. I cut a strip of ¼” use my bone folder to break the fibber in the card stock and boom it works just like a piece of ribbon. All is shown in the video.
This is the card that I share live. See the video below.
Shining Down on Peaceful Nativity
When I share this lovely card with the Peaceful Nativity I got so many requests for a video. So the next day I when live at lunchtime and share this technique. In the video, I share how to have 3 colors in the background. You can add different elements like the trees or the Nativity and I bet it would look great with an ocean view.

Thank you so much for sharing your videos. You are so easy to follow! I watch a lot of videos but, you take your your time,. With lots of tips along the way. Even though I have been stamping for years, I always learn something new. And I will be sending cards with “Thinking of You” especially during this time of uncertainty. God Bless your huge heart.
