Double Vision card layout

For today’s share, I’m featuring the Double Vision card layout—a simple technique with a big visual impact.

You might be wondering, what is “double vision”? It’s an easy way to create depth and movement using strips of Designer Series Paper. Start with a piece sized 4″ x 5 1/4″ (for 1/2″ strips) or 3 3/4″ x 5″ (for 3/4″ strips). Then cut your paper into evenly spaced strips—either in 1/2″ or 3/4″ increments.

At first, I thought this design required two sheets of the same pattern—but good news, it doesn’t! You only need one piece of Designer Series Paper.

Here’s where the “double vision” effect comes to life:
Adhere the first strip flat to your card base, then raise the next strip with dimensionals. Continue alternating—flat, raised, flat, raised—across the card front. This up-and-down pattern creates that eye-catching layered effect.

For added texture and interest, you can emboss some of the strips before adhering them. It’s a great way to mix things up while still highlighting your paper.

I’ve included a video below if you prefer to see it step-by-step—I find visual learning makes this technique even easier to master.

This layout is a fantastic way to showcase your Designer Series Paper and actually use it instead of just admiring it. Give it a try—I hope it inspires you to start cutting into your stash!

Thoughtful Journey Double Vision

The card on the left, I use two of the same print, 4″ x 5 ¼”. The layer in the back is adhered without cutting into strips, and the top layer uses every other strip adhered with dimensions. With the remainding of the 6 x 6, I created the card on the right. Note, we do NOT need two prints; all is explained in the video.
