Hello Stampers,
Today it is all about the Faux Wood Burning technique with Celebrate Sunflower and Pinewood Planks embossing folder. So simple and fun technique.
It is a story behind this card. Well, way back in February I did a vintage Clubhouse card for the team retreat and I inspired Glenda to make the faux wood burning technique. I didn’t see the faux wood in my card till she said it reminds her for burning wood. Well, long story short is I inspired Glenda and Glenda inspired me.
I have the how-to video below or you can view it on my YouTube channel.
Measurements
- Crumb Cake 8½ x 5½ score at 4¼ card base
- Early Espresso 5¼ x 4
- Watercolor Paper 5 x 3¾
- Very Vanilla 5¼ x 4 inside
Step by step
- Place the sunflower and Hello on the Stamparatus
- Stamp 2 to 3 time using Early Espresso ink
- Using the water painter with water brush in one direction. Spread the ink but do not overdo it. You want to keep some white and different tones for the wood look. All is explained in the video.
- If you wish to emboss use the Pinewood Planks 3D embossing folder and emboss while it is wet.
- LET DRY and assemble your card
Now talk about simple with a wow effect. I bet you can do this with your kids and grandkids.

Wow! I love this technique I had to try it right away. I made one modification- before running through the embossing folder, I stamped the image one more time with the stamparatus in black archival ink. This way I got the added darkness of the blackened char marks. I turned out really cool. I’m even having thoughts of dabbing a little liquid smoke onto the back of the panel before assembling so when the recipient gets it they smell that woody smell— could also use essential oil with cedar wood- something earthy. I’m totally going to try this with some other stamp sets after work tomorrow too.
I am so glad you like it. Repost if you try the liquids smoke.
Enjoy and have a great day
