For today’s share, I’m showing how to create a soft watercolor background to achieve a beautiful sunrise scenery. The stamp set I used for the trees is Peaceful Pier. You could also use sets like Mountain Air (if you still have it) or Lovely as a Tree—any tree silhouette works well to set the scene and tie everything together.
A key tip for watercolor backgrounds is to prime your paper. This simply means lightly wetting the paper first by spritzing it with water. Then apply your color in layers, letting the paper dry between each layer. Natural drying gives the softest results, but if needed, you can use a heat tool to speed up the process.
How To Watercolor a Simple Scenery of Sunrise
I’ve included a step-by-step video below showing exactly how I create these sunrise backgrounds. You’ll also find the complete supply list at the bottom of the post.
Watercolor Sunrise Showcase by Frenchie
Here my take on my sunrise watercolor.

See the picture beside one of my cards. I love the sunrise here in Cheyenne, WY. I am a morning person, so most mornings I get to sip my coffee and admire the sun rising. It is so peaceful.
