Today I’m sharing two cards created with the Gears & Texture dies, featuring extra texture. I used the dies not only for cutting, but also for embossing, which is a great way to stretch the value of your die sets. To add even more texture, I lightly sanded the foil paper, giving it a distressed, industrial look.
I shared a video a couple of weeks ago demonstrating this technique, and I’ll place it at the bottom of this post in case you missed it. These cards are excellent examples of masculine cards—something many stampers ask for more ideas and inspiration to create.
Gears & Textures with Extra Texture Showcase
The copper foil is embossed with the dies and then sanded with a low-grit sandpaper. The raised gears are out of silver foil, but to add some extra texture, I sanded the foil and drag teh StazOn black and brown ink.
Measurements
- Basic Beige 11″ x 4 ¼” score at 5 ½” card base.
- Copper Foil 3 ½” x 4 ¼”.
- Basic Black 3 ¾” x 4 ½”; 3 ¼” x ⅜”; 4″ x 5 ¼” inside.
3 ¾” x 5″; 3 ½” x ⅝”. 4″ x 5 ¼” inside. - Silver Foil 3″ x 3″.
- Basic White 3 ½” x 4 ¾”.
On the inside layer, I emboss with the dies on card stock 🙂
Earthen Tone Metallic
If you are wondering what the difference is between the metallic and foil paper, to be honest, I think it’s just the wording. The texture and the look are the same, just different colors!
Here is the card with the Earthen Toned Metallic.

- Basic Beige 11″ x 4 ¼” score at 5 ½” card base. 3 ½” x ⅜”.
- Copper Foil 3 ½” x 4 ¾”.
- Early Espresso 3 ¾” x 5″; 3 ½” x ⅝”. 4″ x 5 ¼” inside.
- Silver Foil 3″ x 3″.
- Very Vanilla 3 ½” x 4 ¾” inside.
