Magical Fall Card with the Joseph’s Coat Technique

Today, I’m sharing a magical fall card! The technique is known as Joseph’s Coat. However, I like to call it magical. That’s exactly what it feels like when the colors appear through the dark ink layer.

For the best results, use vivid or bright colors. For my fall palette, I chose Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, and Old Olive.

Here’s how to create it:

On a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, blend your colors using blending brushes — Crushed Curry, Old Olive, and Cajun Craze.
Let it dry completely.
Stamp your images using VersaMark ink, then heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
Once cooled and dry, drag an Early Espresso ink pad directly over the top.
With a paper towel or soft rag, gently wipe off the excess ink — and voilà! You’ll reveal the magic of fall beneath the dark layer.

Measurements

Old Olive 8 ½” x 5 ½” score at 2 ½” and 4 ¼” card base
Cajun Craze 2 of 5 ¼” x 4″
Very Vanilla 2 of 5′ x 3 ¾” and 2″ x ¾”

You can use this same technique for other seasons, too!

For spring or summer, try Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo, or Pumpkin Pie.
Always finish with a dark ink on top — Night of Navy, Blackberry Bliss, Secret See, Mossy Meadow, or even Early Espresso work beautifully.
