Come learn how to create the Blackout Embossing Technique with a Layered Florals Folder. The blackout technique is excellent with all 3-D deep embossing folders. The blackout technique I learn for Lydia at SplitCoastStamper.
This is a must-try for all the paper crafters. It is magical. Look at these pictures; it sure doesn’t look like the top layer is BASIC WHITE. I started with Basic White, embossed, and used the blending brush to add color on the de-bossing side and brayer or tap ink directly on top with Memento Black ink. I love this technique. It is such a wow effect. Let me share more samples and the how-to video.
How to Create the Blackout Embossing Technique
In the video, I share how to create the blackout technique using the Layered Florals 3-D Embossing Folder with and without the brayer.
Blackout Embossing Showcase
I try many colors, and the brighter, the better. Here are some of the colors I liked: Tahitian Tide, Costal Cabana, Lemon Lolly, Lemon Lime Twist, Melon Mambo, Fresh Freesia, and Flirty Flamingo.
The measurements are very basic.
- Card base 11 x 4-¼ score at 5-½ or 8-½ x 5-1/2 score at 4-¼
- Optional color layer 5-⅜ x 4-⅛
- Top layer basic white 5-¼ x 4
- inside inset 4 x 5-¼
The long greeting on this card is from the stamp set Sweetly Scripted, an Online Exclusive stamp set. The easy button to order can be found at the bottom of this post.
- Basic Black 8-½ x 5-1/2 score at 4-¼, 1 x 5-¼, 2-⅜ x 5-¼
- Basic White 2-⅛ x 5-¼,¾ x 5-¼, 8 x 5 score at 4 inside full insert.
- Tahitian Tide layer 5-⅜ x 4-⅛
This card is Flirty Flamingo, Fresh Freesia, and Highland Heather. The green on the leaves is Parakeet Party Stampin’ Blends. The leaves are tiny, so adding color with the Stampin’ Blends was easier. The Petal Park builder punch little flowers are great for accent on these cards.
For the yellow, I prefer the Lemon Lolly.
Inside, insert 4 x 5-¼. I emboss about 1′ at the edge side or bottom with the same folder Layered Florals 3-D folder.
Blue tones are my favorite color, so the Tahitian Tide is one of my favorite colors for this technique.
