Watermark Background Technique Video
In this video, I share how to create the Watermark Background Technique. Many will guess that I used bleach for this technique, but you will be surprised that it is done with water.
Showcase of the Watermark Background with Prized Peony
The Prized Peony is an excellent set for the Watermark Technique. A detail stamp works great for this technique. After you sponge 3 to 5 colors on a piece of Basic White cardstock, spritz water on the stamp, and stamp on the inked cardstock, this will pull the ink off. In between each time you stamp, wipe off the ink on the stamp, repeat spritz water, and stamp.
After the surface of the stamped cardstock is dry from stamping with water, you can re-stamp with ink optional. For example, see the card above on the right; it is stamped after the watermark.
When stamping with water, you can stamp on White cardstock for the soft image. Again, some will show better than others; all depend on how much ink you’ll pull out.
Color Combo
The color inks that I sponge on the Basic White are Gorgeous Grape, Melon Mambo, and Coastal Cabana. Note that the card stock is Highland Heather in the purple tone.
This is how the cardstock looks before you stamp the image with water. Yes, it looks blahhhh but when you add the watermark it is magical!
Showcase of the Watermark with Celebrate Sunflowers
The Stamp set Celebrate Sunflowers is another great set for this technique. It has a beautiful detail image that is friendly for stamping with water.
The same designer then above, just in different colors. So this color combo, I call it the fall combo.
Fall Color Combo
Here is the look before I stamped the image with water. Also on the right-hand side, that is before I added the top layer of Crushed Curry.
The fall card above was created during Create On the Fly on Facebook a few weeks ago. You can watch the replay HERE. The stamp set is Gorgeous Leaves. The Gorgeous Leaves stamp set looks like a bold stamp but it is a reverse detail image. the detail is engraved in the bold image so it works well for this technique.
Measurements
- Cardbase 11 x 4 score at 5 ½ or 5 ½ x 8 ½ score at 4 ¼.
- Color layer 5 ⅜ x 4 ⅛
- Basic White top layer the layer you sponge and stamp 5 ¼ x 4
- For the greeting layer 4 x 1 color, white 4 x ¾ if you wish to have it diagonal, increase the length to 5″ and adhere diagonal and trim from the back layer.
